| Interested in Stained Glass Classes? Blue Moon Studios teaches stained glass classes in the traditional leaded method and copper foil method. Students are encouraged to start with the copper foil method. You will learn about the different types of stained glass and how stained glass is made. the different tools that you will use for making stained glass such as the glass cutters , running pliers, breaking/ grozing pliers, different glass saws and grinders, soldering irons, foils, and leading tools. We start off our class by practicing cutting on clear glass to get the propper cutting technique down. We cut a variety of shapes to simulate cuts you will be making on colored glass later on in the class. Then we make a small complete project out of clear glass before we start a colored project. We have many pattern books for getting ideas about what you would like your first project to be. Some of our students have done victorian style panels, while others have tried out sea scape panels and flowers. Whatever your preference we can either find a pattern in a book or we can work on drawing a unique design. The next process is to transfer your design to contact paper, cut it out with special shears that remove a small portion of the pattern to allow for copper foil later on. Then you can pick out glass from our large stock of glass. We are here to help out with any of these color choices as sometimes it is overwhelming to have to choose between 20 different shades of one color. Next you will cut out your project, grind it and foil it, and finially solder, patina, and polish it. During all of this we will be helping out with any questions you might have and giving tips to make your project turn out wonderful. We charge a class fee of $100 which covers all of the class time for you to finish your first colored project and the use of our tools. You will also have to pay for the supplies for your project, glass, 1 roll each of foil and solder, and the flux, cleaner, patina, and polish that you use. The cost for supplies averages to around $60 dollars. If you would like to continue with stained glass we sell all types of stained glass supplies at a competitive rate to big cities glass shops. We encourage you to buy your own cutter, but you can come to work shops at our studio to use our other more costly tools for a fee of $5 per session. We are very flexable with our class times and try to work with our students schedules. Please contact us if you have any other questions about stained glass classes or purchasing supplies. We also teach a 2 session mosaic class to school age children. It consists of the students laying out a pattern with glass and mirror chips, nuggets, and other media onto a 8" square. The pieces are then glued down securely. At the next session the tiles are grouted. Students are allowed to take them home the same day. We like to have about 5 or 6 students in each class. The class costs $25 per student. |
