| Custom Doors At Blue Moon Studios we can customize door panels for you. We start by taking any pictures, sketches, clippings, and ideas from the customer and make a preliminary pattern with it. We have made custom door panels to match existing door designs, favorite views, and from pictures on cards. We also work with bevels for an elegant design. For custom door, we work with door blanks, which are hardwood doors with no glass. We then build a panel to go in the door, surround it with glass for protection and insulation, and install it in the door. We can then build other elements such as transoms (panel over the door), and sidelights (panel on side of door) to create a custom entry. If the customer is satisfied with the design, we will make a full size pattern, otherwise we make changes until the customer is happy. During this early stage we also determine a price range and size of finished piece. The amount of detail and type of glass can be changed to help accomodate a budget. Lastly before we start cutting glass we determine if there are specific colors or textures that the customer would like in the finished panels. The next process is cutting our the pattern and glass, then grinding rough edges off the glass. We currently work in copper foil and traditional leaded tecniques. Finially we assemble the window and glaze (leaded panels), and polish the window. We can work off of precise measurements from our customers. We usually ask for the exact size of the opening and make the finished piece with a 1/8" tolerance on top and side. We ship our pieces by ups, but are willing to travel within the state of Washington to install our custom doors. |
